We are the first North Carolina breeders of registered Leicester Longwool sheep. Our sheep are descended from the original 3 ewes we bought in 2004. Currently we have 9 registered Leicester Longwool ewes and one Tunis/Leicester cross ewe. Our goal is to humanely raise healthy sheep with beautiful fleeces who conform to the breed standard. |

Throughout the year the sheep have day long access to pasture with deep woods for shade during the often hot summer days of North Carolina. During wet and cold weather they come into the shed areas adjoining our barn. This is also where they bring themselves in the evening, knowing it's safe from coyotes and wild dogs. However, our 135 lb. rescued Great Pyrenees dog, Holden, is the sheep's main protection. He's on patrol 24/7!
The sheep are mostly grass fed from April to November with hay given during the winter months. The pregnant or lactating ewes are fed grain, as well as the lambs at weaning. Our sheep are handled frequently and are very personable. As they head out to pasture in the morning (usually in single file) most of the ewes stop in front of me for a good back scratch. All of our breeding ewes were born and raised on our farm. |
