Our farm is named for a spring that flows out of the ground, hidden among the roots of an old and majestic beech. The spring is surrounded by 54 acres of green pastures, multiple creeks and deep woods. Our home since 1981, Hidden Spring Farm is nestled in the rolling hills of the central Piedmont of North Carolina.

My primary joy, passion and work for almost 25 years has been the raising and homeschooling of our three children. The kids have had the woods to roam in, the creeks to play in, and the animals to help take care of: horses, goats, chickens, guineas, dogs, cats and, of course, the sheep. Now, with almost all of the kids grown up, I'm spending more time on my other passions: raising sheep and spinning their wonderful wool into yarn.

Having learned to spin while living in New Zealand in 1984, I rediscovered my love of handspinning almost 15 years later. Eventually, I decided to add sheep to the farm in order to have my own supply of wool to spin . We were already raising heritage chickens and goats and wished to continue to help in the preservation of endangered farm breeds. The extremely rare Leicester (pronounced lester) Longwool, with it's gorgeous and lustrous fleece, seemed the perfect choice of sheep and we bought our first Leicester Longwools in 2004.
